You don’t want your child to miss school, but neither do you want to send a sick child to school. When should your child stay home? Here are a few guidelines we ask you to follow:
Fever is an important symptom; when it occurs along with sore throat, ear ache, nausea, listlessness, or rash, your child may be very contagious. Please keep a child home during the course of a fever and for an additional 24 hours after the fever has passed.
Once lice are brought into a home or school, they can quickly produce an epidemic of itching and scratching. You will be given directions as to the most effective way to disinfect your child. Please keep the child home for 48 hours after treatment has started.
Diarrhea and vomiting make a child very uncomfortable, and being near a bathroom becomes top priority. If your child has repeated episodes of diarrhea and/or vomiting with or without a fever, please keep your child out of school.
Rashes are a body’s reaction to an allergen or a viral infection. Please keep your child home until a doctor determines the cause of the rash and whether or not the child is still contagious and requires monitoring.
